Gord Richards, joined the Vancouver office in June, 2000 as a Senior Consultant after 18 years as a registered architect in British Columbia.
Gord earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from North Dakota State University in 1972. He is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to British Columbia in 1978 to pursue his professional development. In 1984, Gordon participated in the Certified Professional program initiated by the City of Vancouver and subsequently adopted by other B.C. municipalities. This is an additional certification level available to architects and engineers who have engaged in specialized study and demonstrated proficiency with the B.C. Building Code, the Vancouver Building Bylaw and related life safety regulations. Gordon has retained this certification through 3 subsequent upgrade courses and exams and has applied the specialized knowledge to the practice of architecture.
Initially, the code work was of interest primarily as a support to Gord's endeavors as a designer, but he has found that he enjoys the mental discipline associated with building code analysis, and has increasingly focused on this kind of work in the recent stages of his career. The move to Gage-Babcock & Associates Ltd. represents a commitment to the pursuit of excellence in this discipline.
