Fire Alarm & Sprinkler Design

Tony Godwin joined GBA as a Senior Consultant in November 2002. He has 35 years experience in design, installation and service of all types of fire protection systems, including sprinkler and fire alarm systems, special hazards, and clean agent systems.

Starting as a sprinkler system designer, Tony has completed many projects in new construction, in retrofits and in additions and alterations. In the 1970s, he worked on design of special hazards systems for petrochemical plants in Alberta and Ireland. In the early 1980s, he was responsible for design and project management for all sprinkler and Halon systems in the Prince Rupert Grain Terminal.

Tony was employed by a major international fire protection contractor for 15 years. His responsibilities over that time ranged from system design to sales and service management. This provided the opportunity to gain experience in almost every type of fire protection system and equipment currently in use, and in every type of application.

His experience is supplemented by Level IV certification in Sprinkler System Design by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) and by numerous training courses in fire alarm, special hazards, clean agent systems, and building code.

He also is the holder of a Limited Licence from APEGBC permitting him to practice professional engineering with respect to water-based fire suppression systems. [Click here to view license]

At GBA, Tony contributes his knowledge and experience to provide clients with detailed evaluations of their fire protection systems requirements, followed by complete design and specification services, and project management from bid to final acceptance.
