Bill joined GBA in July 1990 as a Senior Engineer. He previously had positions as a research engineer, testing and certification engineer, fire protection engineer with a major fire department and a building and fire code consultant. He is registered as a professional engineer in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario.

In addition to his extensive experience in interpreting and applying codes and standards to a wide range of projects, Bill has experience in fire modelling and modelling of the behaviour of structural components in fires. He was a lecturer in the fire protection engineering program at UBC.

Since joining GBA, Bill has been involved in a variety of types and sizes of projects ranging from a multi-building mixed occupancy project, Library Square, to a small self-serve gas bar and car wash. Other projects which have benefited from Bill's experience include prisons, heavy industrial buildings, including power plants, residential buildings of various sizes, schools, and shopping malls. Bill has also undertaken various investigations in support of litigation.

Over the years, Bill has undertaken formal and informal training programs to keep himself up to date. He is currently taking a program in fire protection engineering by distance learning with Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA.
